Move up in your stance, hit down on the ball. Also a softer-cover golf ball will help.

There are 3 main things that pros do better than us, one of them is hitting the ball before the ground. In order to spin a ball properly you must hit the ball first, and hit down on it.

Practice this by putting a tee in the ground. Set a ball where it is now parallel to the tee. Preform your normal set up and swing. Your goal is to make solid contact with the ball. All of your divots should be in front of the tee. This means you have hit the ball first. If you hit a fat shot the divot will be behind the tee, thus creating less spin. Try it see how it works for you.

Just drive through the ball at an angle down so that you produce the spin. I don't know why you'd want it with your irons but short game wise...you need to be good with your hands, not flippy with them but good so you develop good feel. I've probably got the best short game on my hs team but my technique looks bad. I'm just great with my hands and know what the ball's going to do from certain lies, distances and clubs. Just practice long and hard and good luck!

Best way to get backspin is to hit the ball sharply and let the club angle do the work. The bigger the angle the more backspin you can produce. Practice taking divots from the turf which naturally will translate into you hitting your ball at an extreme angle.

Simple answer. Backspin is simply the product of good technique and good contact. Just work on core fundamentals and you'll see better results. There are no secrets or shortcuts to increased spin.
