“I am fairly consistent with my driver and my short and long irons. Unfortunately, my 3 wood is still unreliable. Please help me!
My driver and 3 wood have the same type of shaft but I can’t consistently hit the ball with my 3 wood. It’s either topped or behind.”
THE #1 SWING GUIDE JUST GOT BETTER!

Unreliable how? If you are consistent with the rest, perhaps you are hooking the three wood? I do that. I think it’s because I have a stiff shaft in my driver and steel shafts for my irons whereas my three wood still has the regular shaft. Perhaps this is also your problem?
Edit: Ah okay. If you’re topping it then you’re thinking of it too much like a driver. Here’s some advice… Grip down a little, make it slightly shorter. Now you pretend it’s an iron. You don’t have problems with those, so go ahead and pretend you’re only 150 yards out. Take a 2/3 – 3/4 swing and go ahead and strike down on that ball. It should easily take off into the air.

Ball placement is different for a driver than it is with a 3-wood.
A 3-wood was designed to hit a golf ball with a descending swing. A driver was designed to hit a golf ball with an ascending swing.
To hit a 3-wood…
Place your ball in the middle or a half to whole ball right of middle (for right handers) of your stance. Swing down on the ball with your head behind the ball. Complete your follow-thru.

If you are hooking it, then you need to set your club on the ground, line your feet up straight with the club, then twist your handle and head to a slight angle, then you should consistantly hit straight and far.

First, never think that there is gross difference vis a vis other clubs. Secondly, It is the backswing ie its direction, speed and reach which is the deciding factor for good contact. For good drive shot the contact with the ball should be inward and for fade the contact has to be a bit open. For straight shots the contact should be square. And lastly, practice with slow movement is more rewarding.
dump the 3 wood.. and hit two 7 irons a wedge.. you will save strokes.
